- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- ½ pound fresh chorizo or spicy Italian sausage, casing removed
- 1 cup (1 small) chopped white onion
- 1 cup (1 small) chopped red bell pepper
- 1 (5-ounce) container Frigo® Crumbled Feta Cheese
- 1 cup Frigo® Whole Milk Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
- 1 (8-ounce) container cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon low-sodium taco seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Tortilla chips or crackers, for serving
Optional Toppings: Chopped tomatoes, sliced avocado, slices of lime, chopped cilantro
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400°F and lightly oil a shallow oven-safe dish, 8-inch cast-iron skillet or casuela.
In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, sauté 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the sausage until it’s brown. Then, add the onions and red bell peppers to the pan and cook until the vegetables are soft and the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
While the sausage and vegetables cook, mix the Frigo® Crumbled Feta Cheese, Frigo® Whole Milk Mozzarella Cheese, cream cheese, hot sauce, taco seasoning and freshly ground black pepper in a large mixing bowl and stir until everything is thoroughly mixed.
Remove the pan from the heat and pour off the excess fat. Then, fold the cheese mixture into the cooked sausage mixture.
Scoop the mixture into the oven-safe dish, place it in the heated oven and bake it until bubbling and lightly browned on top, about 15 minutes.
Remove it from the oven, top it with your favorite toppings and serve it immediately with tortilla chips or crackers.
